Arsic: The new agreement is extremely important for the University, it allows us to continue all activities
Nebojsa Arsic, the rector of the University of Pristina with temporary seat in Kosovska Mitrovica, said that the agreement related to the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles is extremely important for the institution he leads because it allows them to continue operating normally within the Serbian system.
Arsic told Radio Television of Serbia that the situation at the university this morning is normal and that his colleagues and students feel relieved after the outcome of the crisis situation.
“At this moment classes are beginning at the faculties and the noise of students can be heard. As I was coming to work, I passed by the campus and saw many pupils and students heading to their schools and faculties. Teaching is taking place according to the plan and program,” he said.
He noted that there is a sense of relief and that all activities are proceeding normally.
“Yes, we feel relieved, the relief is noticeable. It can be felt in every conversation, everyone on the street is talking about this solution because it is extremely important for us and gives us hope that we will be able to work normally. All activities are proceeding according to plans. In the coming period we expect enrollment, which is the alpha and omega of our activities. The enrollment of a new generation of students is of primary importance for us because it allows the continuation of all activities,” Arsic stressed.
He added that ten faculties operate within the university and that over the past ten years they have had 13,000 graduates across three levels of study.
“In addition to our usual activities, we are also active when it comes to our international obligations arising from international agreements,” Arsic emphasized.
He stressed that it is very important for the university to remain within the Serbian education system.
“We also wanted to deny various rumors that have been circulating about the fate of the university. It is crucial that our university remains within the system of Serbia. There has been no discussion about relocating the university or changing its status, and I deny that,” the rector said.
He emphasized that they would not be able to survive without the support of Belgrade, which was demonstrated again at this critical moment.
“This is the first time in the past few years that the international community has reacted. We all made our maximum contribution to reach a solution that would allow the uninterrupted work of the university in the coming period,” Arsic concluded.
