Bisevac: Forced settlement of Albanians in the north will not drive away the Serbs
The former president of the Assembly of the Municipality of North Mitrovica, Nemanja Bisevac, views the Pristina government's plan to build 200 houses for minorities in the north as an attempt at Albanization, however, he adds that this will not force the Serbian population to leave.
"Certainly, this forced settlement of Albanians in the northern part of Kosovo signifies the Albanization of the north. However, I am confident that their attempts and settlements will not force the Serbian population to move out. We have been here for centuries, and for the past 25 years, we have faced constant threats from the south. I believe that the Serbian people will persevere, and more importantly, we will not abandon our homes," Bisevac told Kosovo Online.
He mentions that besides trying to build houses and settle Albanians, the Kosovo government has recently been allocating local businesses in the north to Albanian businessmen.
"They hope to change the demographic structure. I am certain, although they keep trying, that this will not affect our people and that we are determined to stay in these areas," he emphasizes.
When asked whether the allocation of businesses previously used by Serbs to Albanians by the Privatization Agency might indicate a reduction in interethnic tensions, he responded, "Quite the opposite."
"This is one of their significant methods for expelling Serbs. They want to portray that they have full control over the north and that their businesses and products can easily meet all the needs of the Serbian population. The Serbian people are well aware of the situation and know exactly what is going on," Bisevac stated firmly.
