Citizens with passports issued by the Coordinating Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia still without visa liberalization
Visa liberalization came into force today for the citizens of Kosovo, but it does not apply to holders of passports issued by the Coordinating Administration of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia. From Brussels, they confirm for Kosovo online that the European Parliament and the Council of the EU must agree on such a decision and add that the procedure is ongoing.
The European Commission previously submitted a proposal to abolish visas for citizens who have passports issued by the Coordinating Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, but the procedure is still ongoing.
Namely, it is about co-decision, that is, the decision should be passed by both the Council of the EU and the European Parliament. As Kosovo Online learns in Brussels, the proposal should be considered at the labor and political level at the EU Council's Working Group for the Western Balkans at the beginning of January.
When it gets the "green light" there, the proposal is sent to the Visa Working Group, followed by confirmation in the European Parliament. The last step in the process is the approval at the ministerial meeting.
The Government of Kosovo previously stated that it was concerned about the proposal of the European Commission to cancel visas for holders of Serbian passports, who live on the territory of Kosovo, and asked the European Union to reconsider that proposal.
