Dacic: No Kosovo membership request on the agenda of the INTERPOL General Assembly
Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic, who is leading Serbia’s delegation in Marrakesh at the 93rd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly, stated today that the agenda of this year’s session does not include a request by Kosovo for admission to membership—an unmistakable signal that Pristina is aware it lacks the necessary majority and that there is no possibility of it being admitted to this international organization.
“What matters to us is that the adopted agenda contains no request for the admission of the so-called ‘Kosovo’ into membership. The last time they applied was in Dubai a few years ago, and after the catastrophic defeat they suffered, they have not submitted an application for years. What is very important is the clear message that they know they do not have a majority and that there is no possibility whatsoever for them to be admitted to this international organization,” Dacic emphasized.
According to the statement issued by the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Dacic pointed out that the INTERPOL General Assembly, one of the oldest international police organizations, provided an opportunity for many important bilateral meetings with individuals who play a significant role in the organization.
“The most important meeting was certainly with INTERPOL President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, who has greatly helped the organization return to its core principles—free from politicization and dedicated equally to all of its member states,” Dacic said.
He presented Al-Raisi with the highest decoration that the Minister of Internal Affairs can award—the ‘Jakov Nenadovic’ Star, named after Serbia’s first Minister of Internal Affairs in 1811—in recognition of the excellent cooperation so far.
The Minister noted that he also met today with INTERPOL Secretary General Valdesi Urquiza, who was elected to the post last year, and extended an invitation for him to visit Serbia.
“We have outstanding cooperation with Urquiza, and he also expressed the desire for me to visit INTERPOL’s headquarters. The main topic of our talks will be our application to open a regional INTERPOL bureau for this part of Europe in Serbia, in Belgrade,” Dacic said, adding that he held a series of other bilateral meetings as well.
