Pristina residents do not expect president to be elected: We are heading for elections, opposition to blame

Pristina residents do not expect the issue of electing a president to be resolved following the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly, and believe the opposition is to blame. They also say that Kosovo is heading for new elections.

For Pristina resident Mirsad Krasniqi, holding another election would be highly detrimental to Kosovo.

“This is the last chance. If this is not resolved on Wednesday, we will inevitably go to elections. That would be extremely damaging for Kosovo and would present a very poor image of Kosovo, because we have had three or four elections within two years, which is simply too many,” Krasniqi told KosovaPress.

He believes the responsibility lies with the opposition parties.

“Whoever they nominate, they will not vote. Nominate whoever you want—they will not vote for anyone. This is their charade; they have even found an excuse to reject Bekim Sejdiu,” he said.

Bajram Demaj expressed a similar view, stressing that the opposition parties did not want a vote on the president to take place.

“I am not at all optimistic that the President of the Republic will be elected. The opposition parties do not want the vote to take place, they do not want to provide a quorum or elect the president. Bekim Sejdiu is a very good candidate,” Demaj said.

Azem Doda said that Kosovo would go to elections and that no one would accept responsibility for it.

“The country will go to elections. Blame is an orphan, and no one will accept it,” Doda said.

Presiding officer Avni Dehari has scheduled the continuation of the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly for Wednesday, September 9, at 11 a.m.

Since the June 7 elections, the Assembly has met twice, on August 6 and 8. The MPs took their oaths, after which Kurti requested an adjournment to allow negotiations on the issue of the president.
