Diplomatic relations established between Serbia and Guyana

The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, signed a joint communiqué today in New York with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Hugh Hilton Todd, on the sidelines of the general debate at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, formalizing the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Expressing his satisfaction with the formalization of this decision, Djuric emphasized in his conversation with his Guyanese counterpart that Serbia is interested in enhancing overall bilateral relations and establishing cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

According to Djuric, Serbia is also ready to intensify political dialogue through the establishment of a mechanism for political consultations, the realization of high-level visits, and cooperation within the regional organizations of the Western Hemisphere, where Serbia holds observer status.

Recalling that the former SFRY had good relations with Guyana, Djuric noted that, given the existing tradition of cooperation, there is significant potential for developing political and economic relations, as well as collaboration in the field of higher education.

In this regard, Djuric informed his counterpart about the scholarship program for foreign students called "World in Serbia," and expressed hope that in the near future, there will be an opportunity to host Guyanese students in Serbia.
