Djuric: All Serbian people are heroic, I am proud
The suspended director of the North Regional Police Directorate, Major Nenad Djuric, became a symbol of honor, courage, and Serbian resistance to the terror carried out by the Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, wrote Kurir newspaper.
In his confession for Kurir, Commander Djuric modestly renounced all the titles bestowed upon him by the citizens and instead called all of the Serbian people heroic. He talked about the importance of the support he received from his family, but also about how much it meant to him that the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, personally expressed his support and said that he would award him.
Djuric refused to issue warnings to his people as of November 1st for not re-registering their vehicles from KM to RKS plates, which is why Kurti suspended him, even though he had no legal rights to do so, and the commander left the Kosovo Police. After an all-night conversation with Vucic, the representatives of the Serbs from Kosovo decided to get out of all Kosovo institutions, including the police, courts, prosecutors offices, and the local self-government.
It was hard to see the sky from the tens of thousands of Serbian tricolors at a magnificent gathering held on Saturday in North Mitrovica. Djuric gave an emotional speech and said that the fate was not in the hands of others but in the hands of the Serbian people, that we had no other country, and that the decision they made was "waking up from a long sleep".
"First of all, I wanted to explain that this was not an act of resistance but a natural reaction to the pressure we have endured all those years. All Serbian people were heroic, considering what we went through and what happened to us, and God only knows what we would need to go through. As a member of my people, I felt proud before and after this", Djuric told Kurir.
He adds that neither he nor his colleagues had a dilemma when they gave up their uniforms and weapons and left the Kosovo Police.
"Knowing that the decision on re-registration went in the wrong direction, and pointing that out to all decision-makers, that the decision was directed primarily against the Serbian community and that it was unfeasible from our side, and given that there was no understanding from Pristina, I and all the police officers didn’t have a dilemma over what needed to be done", Djuric explained.
As he says, the most important thing is the support of his family.
"My family also goes through everything that happens to me, both stressed out and proud! The love and support of my family keep me alive. Other things might be important for succeeding in something, but no more important than family's support. Regarding the award that will be given to me by President Vucic, I want to say that it is a great pride when your country and your president rank you among the great and famous", says the major, whom the entire north of Kosovo says is a good and virtuous man and a great host.
Djuric previously told the Pink TV channel that he believed that KFOR and EULEX must do everything to prevent any escalation, which no one would want. He pointed out that as a professional, a person, and a parent, he did not want to assume that something like that could happen.
It was not the first time that the Kosovo authorities prosecuted Djuric because of the license plates. He has already been expelled from the Kosovo Police once because of the license plates.
The Serbian people and Serbian representatives elected him as the commander of the Northern Region Police Directorate in 2013.
He returned his issued uniform and weapons, left the Kosovo Police, and all his colleagues from the north followed suit in previous days by also returning issued uniforms.
"I am no longer a member of the Kosovo Police because I want to appear before the judgment seat of God with clean hands and a pure heart", says Djuric.
