Djuric and Orbán discuss Hungary's continued support for Serbia's EU integration
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric met today in Rome with Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Orbán, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, Serbia's European integration process, and the current situation in the Western Balkans.
Djuric said he expects Serbia and Hungary to continue fostering their exceptionally close good-neighbourly relations, which have reached their highest level in modern history.
The minister expressed confidence that today's meeting would be followed by further contacts and meetings between officials of the two countries, including engagements at the highest political level, according to a statement issued by the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking about Serbia's European integration process, Djuric emphasized that Serbia highly values Hungary's continued support and reaffirmed that European Union membership remains the country's strategic commitment.
The interlocutors agreed that the Serbian community in Hungary and the Hungarian national minority in Serbia constitute a strong bridge between the two countries and provide an important impetus for the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
With regard to economic cooperation, Djuric noted that it is underpinned by the steady growth of merchandise trade and trade in services, the increasing volume of Hungarian investment in Serbia, and the successful implementation of joint infrastructure and energy projects of both bilateral and regional significance.
He also welcomed Hungary's confirmation of its participation in Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade, expressing confidence that, through its rich cultural heritage and creative potential, Hungary would make a significant contribution to the quality and diversity of the international exhibition.
Orbán also shared news of the meeting on the social media platform X, saying that she was pleased to meet Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric for the first time in Rome.
"We discussed the Hungarian community in Vojvodina and the Serbian community in Hungary, Hungary's support for the opening of Cluster 3 in Serbia's EU accession negotiations, as well as concrete steps to improve north-south transport and energy connectivity," Orbán wrote.
She added that she looks forward to future cooperation and to continuing the close collaboration between the two countries in combating illegal migration.
