Djuric to Koopman: Belgrade remains committed to continuing dialogue with Pristina when conditions permit
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric emphasized today, during a meeting with Gert Jan Koopman, that Belgrade remains committed to continuing the dialogue with Pristina once the necessary conditions are in place. He also stressed the importance of ensuring that the European Union’s enlargement policy remains among the priorities of both EU institutions and member states.
Speaking about the current situation in Kosovo, Djuric noted that “the Serbian population in the province demonstrated unity and responsibility through its strong turnout and participation in the recently held electoral process,” according to a statement issued by Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The minister underlined the importance of keeping EU enlargement high on the agenda of both the Union’s institutions and its member states, adding that Serbia remains firmly committed to reforms and its European path.
He reiterated that membership in the European Union is Serbia’s strategic objective and emphasized that the country continues to implement reforms in all areas relevant to the accession process, including the consistent strengthening of the rule of law and judicial reform.
Recalling that a new negotiating structure had been established earlier this year and that an Operational Team for Serbia’s EU accession process had been formed, Djuric said that these steps confirm Serbia’s strong commitment to accelerating reforms and advancing further toward EU membership.
He also noted that during the recent visit of António Costa to Belgrade, support for the European perspective of the region was reaffirmed, along with the position that enlargement represents a geostrategic necessity for Europe.
Djuric stressed that regional cooperation remains one of Serbia’s key foreign policy priorities, underscoring the country's commitment to further improving bilateral relations throughout the region.
According to him, Serbia seeks to develop good-neighbourly relations that deliver tangible results and enhance regional connectivity, ultimately contributing to a better quality of life for citizens.
The Serbian foreign minister also stated that Serbia is dedicated to building and strengthening bilateral relations with its European partners, based on mutual respect, dialogue, and shared interests, which constitute an important component of the country’s European path and EU integration process.
The meeting was also attended by Danijel Apostolovic, Head of Serbia’s Mission to the European Union and Coordinator of the Operational Team for Serbia’s EU accession process.
