The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Djuric, expressed his gratitude today, in a meeting with the Deputy Minister for International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Alvin Botes, for that country’s principled support for the preservation of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and emphasized Serbia’s commitment to upholding the Charter of the United Nations.

During the meeting with Botes, who is visiting Belgrade to participate in bilateral political consultations between the two ministries, Djuric highlighted the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries, which this year mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

The head of Serbian diplomacy noted that he expects the bilateral consultations to contribute to the deepening of relations and the strengthening of the contractual and legal framework as a basis for the implementation of concrete modalities of cooperation.

“This is an important year for strengthening the ties between Serbia and the Republic of South Africa,” Minister Djuric stated.

He emphasized that the intensification of political dialogue and the exchange of visits at high and highest levels provide impetus for the development of overall relations, and recalled the standing invitation extended to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa to visit Serbia.

Referring to economic cooperation, Djuric underlined that it should follow the positive political relations, adding that there is potential for further enhancement of cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.

Djuric also expressed particular satisfaction with the confirmation of the Republic of South Africa’s participation in the Expo 2027 exhibition in Belgrade.
