Djuric meets Quint representatives: Sabotage incident, Pristina’s accusations against Serbia Baseless

Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, held a briefing today with diplomatic representatives of the EU and the Quint countries regarding yesterday’s incident in the Zubin Potok municipality in Kosovo, which resulted in damage to the Ibar-Lepenac canal.

During the meeting, Djuric emphasized that the incident was clearly an act of sabotage, which Serbia unequivocally condemns as an attack against regional stability and the interests of all local communities, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

The statement highlighted the critical importance of the Ibar-Lepenac canal for water supply and electricity production in Kosovo.

“The Serbian Foreign Minister pointed out that the accusations made by Pristina against Serbia regarding this incident are baseless and unfounded. Their aim is to discredit Belgrade at a sensitive time and to exploit and instrumentalize the situation for political purposes, particularly during the election campaign in Kosovo and Metohija. According to him, Serbia demands an investigation into the motives behind this attack on a vital piece of infrastructure and is ready to cooperate with the international presence in Kosovo and Metohija to clarify all circumstances and potentially identify and prosecute those responsible,” the statement said.

It further noted that Minister Djuric stressed the importance of refraining from baseless accusations or finger-pointing before the investigation provides concrete answers. He also called for police conducting the investigation on the ground not to use the situation as an excuse for any form of violence or human rights violations against citizens.

“Serbia, as conveyed to the representatives, is ready to assist local authorities and Pristina by supplying electricity until the damage to the Ibar-Lepenac canal is repaired. Additionally, Serbia is prepared to contribute to repairing the damage in every possible way. The meeting was attended by representatives from France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, and the EU Delegation in Serbia,” the Ministry concluded.
