Djuric: Serb List represents a tool for fighting for collective Serbian rights in Kosovo and Metohija
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric called on Serbs in Kosovo to find strength within themselves, preserve unity, and, as he stated, understand the importance of being "united in representation against Kurti's regime."
He expressed sincere hope that the trampling of Serbian people's rights in Kosovo would cease.
"It is important, and I call on our compatriots to find strength within themselves, maintain unity, and understand the importance of being united in representation against Kurti's regime. The Serb List represents a tool for fighting for collective Serbian rights in Kosovo and Metohija because through it, we show that Serbia and Serbs are not retreating," Djuric emphasized in an interview with RTS.
Djuric highlighted that the strategic partnership and dialogue between Serbia and the US are of great significance for Serbia's position.
"With the US, we will establish regular exchanges between our institutions in the fields of technology, education, and culture. We will strengthen cooperation in the economy, security, and foreign policy matters. Even where we do not fully agree, we have entered the category of friendly nations with America," Djuric stated for RTS.
He stressed that Serbia's balanced foreign policy ensures that its strategic dialogue with the US does not come at the expense of relations with other partners.
"This approach strengthens our ties with other nations. This was also emphasized by Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who is very close to Trump. It is significant that someone so close to Trump has good relations with Serbia. Naturally, President Vucic also has a close relationship with Trump and has spoken with him. While this does not mean agreement on all issues, it brings us closer. Everyone is observing this shift in America," he added.
When asked whether Serbia could host Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Djuric said it is possible.
"In recent years, Vucic has built an international reputation and respect for Serbia that surpasses many other countries. This places us in a unique position with our balanced policy. Belgrade could successfully host a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. I believe we can play a small but not insignificant role, and we offer this to our partners," Djuric said.
Serbia has so far signed strategic partnerships with nine countries, and this new agreement is tied to improving living standards, wages, and pensions.
"If Serbia can have such agreements with Russia, China, and the Asian bloc, it shows how vital a balanced multi-vector policy based on respect for the UN Charter is. For us, the borders of all nations are inviolable; we are against war, peace is our highest value, and we advocate regional cooperation, which we consistently demonstrate," he stated.
When asked about the consequences of sanctions against Russian companies, Djuric noted that they impact companies in dozens of countries.
"It is not just Serbian companies being targeted. What is important for us is to stick to principles on this issue. We will not confiscate anyone's property. We will respect contractual obligations. Regarding the shift in doctrine by the new US administration against Russia, we will work on this... It will be difficult for the new administration to lift these sanctions without a congressional procedure. Today, we are starting talks with the US Treasury Department and will seek the best possible solution. I am optimistic. Over the past years, we have worked to ensure sufficient gas reserves. There will be no shocks in the energy market, not just concerning oil and gas but also electricity. We have thought about this seriously and strategically. Serbia has strong energy relations with Azerbaijan, as they have never questioned Serbia’s supply. We have partnerships with the EU, Russia, and the US, and we will continue to build on them," Djuric emphasized.
The victory of Zoran Milanovic in Croatia's elections is undoubtedly the most important regional news, and Djuric noted that for Serbia, stable relations with Zagreb are crucial.
"For Serbia, it is essential to build good relations with Croatia, regardless of whether it is politically popular. For the overall image of our region, it is important to improve relations with Croatia. I have established good relations with their foreign minister Radman. We hope this will lead to better economic and political cooperation in the future," Djuric concluded.
