Djuric: Serbia remembers the hand of friendship in difficult times

Before the gathering of Southeast European countries in Belgrade from May 26 to 28 in the format of the traditional American Prayer Breakfast, Serbian Ambassador to the US Marko Djuric met on Capitol Hill with Congressman Robert Aderholt, a member of the Helsinki Commission.

Djuric conveyed to Congressman Aderholt his gratitude for the support of the US Congress for the start of the strategic dialogue between Serbia and the US, as well as the "Open Balkan" initiative, whose further activities would be discussed more at the upcoming gathering in Belgrade.

He also underlined that Serbia remembered the hand of friendship in difficult times and that it had not forgotten that Congressman Aderholt had been one of the initiators of the congressional resolution calling for an end to violence and attacks on religious buildings in Kosovo and Metohija during the March Pogrom in 2004.

Djuric also added that Serbia highly appreciated Aderholt's personal commitment to the region, which had been particularly evident when, together with a group of American congressmen, he had initiated a resolution calling for aid to be sent to Serbia and neighboring countries after the catastrophic floods in May 2014, it is stated in the announcement of the Embassy.

Djuric and the American congressman also discussed other issues of interest to the region, which will be the topics of the May gathering of the Southeast Europe branch within the "Prayer Breakfast" group, which, after 2016, is being held in Belgrade for the second time with the support of the Serbian Parliament and Congress of Serbian-American friendship.
