DPK: Early elections are the only solution to overcome the institutional crisis
The Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) held a regular meeting of its Presidency today, during which they discussed the current political developments in Kosovo. The party concluded that early elections are the only solution to overcoming the ongoing institutional crisis.
According to a statement issued by the DPK and published on Facebook, granting the mandate again to the Self-Determination Movement (Vetëvendosje) represents a waste of time, an unnecessary delay, and a deepening of the institutional crisis, as it is now evident that no one has a majority to form a government.
During the meeting, the DPK unanimously reiterated its position that it will not vote for any mandate of the Self-Determination Movement and that holding early elections is the only way to overcome the deadlock—by returning to the citizens of Kosovo the right to decide on the country’s future direction and to give legitimacy to new institutions.
“The prolonged crisis this year, caused by the Self-Determination Movement, in addition to political damage, has affected every sector. The risk that the state budget will not be adopted on time and that citizens could be left without salaries next year makes it even more necessary to accelerate the process toward new elections,” the statement reads.
It further adds that DPK President Memli Krasniqi expressed his gratitude for the dedication of every member and supporter of the party, which has enabled the DPK to return to first place after 12 years in terms of votes won in local elections.
The statement also notes that in the local elections, the DPK succeeded in increasing the total number of votes for its mayoral candidates, taking second place overall and winning in three municipalities.
Krasniqi called on the party leadership to continue their dedication and mobilization for victory in South Mitrovica, Prizren, Vushtrri, Kaçanik, Klina, and Dragash, where the party is competing in the second round of elections scheduled for November 9.
