Spahiu: Kurti has become immune to EU criticism
Political analyst Nexhmedin Spahiu believes that the resignations of Serb judges and prosecutors were a mistake and a major blow to Kosovo's judiciary, but also that confirming those resignations is likewise very harmful to Kosovo.
He believes they were highly qualified judges, but that new personnel and new judges should now be recruited.
"We lost judges who had experience and were professionals in their work. This is a major loss for Kosovo's judiciary. On the other hand, when it comes to the recommendations of the European Union, I think Albin Kurti's government has become immune to such criticism, so this is ultimately not a major issue. The major issue is that Kosovo is losing the quality of its judiciary," Spahiu told Kosovo Online.
Spahiu believes that Kurti cannot suffer political damage from rejecting EU recommendations.
"I think Kurti will suffer damage when people see that he is not doing anything. That he surrounds himself only with ignorant people and has no success whatsoever. His only success is that he took control of the north away from the state of Serbia and transferred it under the control of the state of Kosovo, and that is all. Everything else has been a major failure, so that political credit cannot sustain him forever. People have already started to forget about it, and in the end they will decide based on what he does, or rather does not do, in Kosovo," Spahiu concludes.
