Drecun about license plates: The Serbs in the north of Kosovo and Metohija should not expect the confiscation of vehicles

President of the Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, Milovan Drecun, said that the Serbs in the north of Kosovo should not expect the confiscation of vehicles because of license plates, RTS reports.

"The problem is that there is no political will on the part of Pristina to solve the problem with the license plates because it wants to misuse that issue to solve status issues, to use the license plates to force Belgrade to accept the so-called state of Kosovo so that the license plates are not status-neutral and that present some kind of success in the alleged de facto recognition of the fake state of Kosovo," Drecun said in the Morning Program.

According to him, there were no deadlines, the problem would be solved in the coming period, people should be allowed to move freely, and that no one harassed them.

"I assume that Pristina will not dare to cause new destabilization; Pristina was clearly told, primarily by the US and the EU, that there had to be no more destabilization in the north of Kosovo and Metohija. In order to be treated, to educate children, to move - you must have a car at your disposal; you will not use a horse-drawn carriage in the 21st century. If someone prevents you for procedural reasons because they want to politically abuse the issue for some other purposes, then this represents a situation that requires the response of the Serbs," Drecun said.

He believes that Pristina should be careful, especially at the stage when discussing what he says is a "possible agreement on the normalization of relations" when in a few days there will be a continuation of talks in Brussels between the negotiating teams and a warning that the West will no longer waste its resources in solving crises.

"However, Pristina will understand those messages and give up harassing and terrorizing the Serbs again, endangering their freedom of movement," Drecun adds.

If the Kosovo police start confiscating vehicles

Drecun says that EU spokesman Peter Stano was clear that there were no deadlines and that messages had already been sent to avoid such situations that would lead to a new escalation of the crisis.

"If we have strong messages coming from the leading centers of power that there must be no destabilization, Pristina must understand those messages. For the Serbs in the north who will not accept living in the fake state of Kosovo, this is a vital issue, it is not a symbolic issue, if someone puts license plates with the RKS mark, with the mark of the fake state of Kosovo - that can be an indirect factor endangering the survival of the Serbs in the north of Kosovo and Metohija. A unified attitude is important," Drecun said.
