Gashi: Kurti the weakest Prime Minister Kosovo has ever had

Arben Gashi, a parliamentary candidate of the Democratic League of Kosovo, assessed that Prime Minister Albin Kurti is the weakest prime minister Kosovo has ever had, stating that the government is weak in almost all areas of governance.

“In terms of government capacity, I believe it is among the weakest – in internal governance, economic development capacities, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, culture, as well as foreign policy. Kosovo has been blocked for years and has lost around one billion euros from the European Union,” Gashi said, as reported by Klan Kosova.

He added that progress had been achieved only in the northern part of Kosovo in practical terms, while in legal terms the situation had deteriorated.

Gashi also criticized today’s government decision to grant 100 euros each to pensioners, children, private sector employees, and students ahead of the snap elections on June 7, assessing that it constituted serious interference in the electoral process.

He said that the measure undermines the equality of the electoral race and places the government in a privileged position compared to other participants, Klan Kosova reported.

“The fact is that Kosovo’s economy and society are still in crisis, and the government acknowledges this when it says it has to provide 100 euros to certain categories that cannot survive otherwise. This is happening during the campaign and makes the electoral race unequal, because the government is trying to win votes through those 100 euros. This is a violation of equality in competition,” Gashi said.

He recalled that both the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Self-Determination had previously criticized similar measures when the Democratic Party of Kosovo was in power, describing them as unacceptable interference in the electoral process.
