Gudzic: For Serbs, the bombing was the beginning of ongoing suffering

Historian Aleksandar Gudzic told Kosovo Online that Serbs and Kosovo Albanians have opposing views on the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which began on this day 27 years ago, and that Serbs see this event as the beginning of suffering that continues to this day, while for Albanians it represents the final phase of the struggle to create Kosovo’s statehood.
“Serbs view this event as the beginning of aggression that later ended with the Military-Technical Agreement, the arrival of international forces, the start of the persecution of Serbs from Kosovo, the expulsion of 250,000 Serbs, and the expulsion of Serbs from almost all urban centers in Kosovo and Metohija,” Gudzic told Kosovo Online.
As he pointed out, the Serbian and Albanian sides have two opposing views of the same war.
“Kosovo Albanians see the very beginning of the bombing as the final phase of the struggle to create Kosovo’s statehood and to separate from Serbia. They view this event as the beginning of the end of Serbian administration in this area,” Gudzic stated.
