Hill: The Serbs' rights in Kosovo will be protected

The US ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, said today that it was very important that the Serbs in Kosovo knew that their rights would be respected and that the agreements made must be implemented, RTV reports.

Hill, in a statement for Tanjug, reminded that Serbs had lived in Kosovo for centuries and that they had the right to know what their future would look like.

"It is fair to say that the Serbs in Kosovo, as well as everyone else, should know that the rights of the Serbs in Kosovo would be protected," he said, but noted that the only way to do this is through the Kosovo constitution.

This is how he responded to the question to comment on Albin Kurti's latest move, Brussels' mild reaction to the appointment of Nenad Rasic as a minister in the Kosovo government, whether this would cause a new crisis and whether the USA, as Kosovo's greatest friend, could do something about it.

He added that the EU expressed its concern with how the Kosovo constitution was interpreted in the latest case.

"Serbs would like to see the formation of the CSM, and that, by the way, is something that was agreed upon by the Kosovo and Serbian authorities and is part of the Brussels Agreement. What was agreed, as Gabriel Escobar also said, is an obligation," Hill pointed out.

He emphasized that it was an international obligation that something agreed upon must be implemented.

"It is very important for the Serbian community in Kosovo, and for all Serbs, to see that their rights will not be denied, but protected by law. This also applies to the CSM", he pointed out.
