The US Ambassador to Belgrade, Christopher Hill, stated today that the United States did not have many details about yesterday's arrest of three Serbs in Kosovo, as reported by RTV.

"It was said that they are connected to crimes that allegedly happened thirty years ago," Hill said for Tanjug.

He emphasized that he would leave it to others to conclude why the arrests had followed immediately after an unsuccessful round of dialogue in Brussels and during the United Nations General Assembly session.

"I believe that this can be resolved quickly, and I would like to see more discussion about cooperation and less about arrests," Hill concluded.

He also mentioned that the US did not understand how the ban on importing goods from central Serbia to Kosovo, imposed by the authorities in Pristina, could help the overall situation in relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

"As for Kosovo and the ban on (Serbian) product imports, I really don't understand it. I know my colleagues at the embassy in Pristina are working hard to resolve this issue. I simply don't understand how these ban measures can help," Hill said to Tanjug during a visit to the Bambi factory in Pozarevac.

He added that it was now essential to calm tensions and increase the level of cooperation.

"What needs to be seen in this region of Southeastern Europe is a higher level of cooperation, tolerance, and joint work to achieve forms of collaboration that will endure," Hill stated.
