Hot: Kosovo police fined me for not reporting the protest, and they were beating my kid
After a protest march in North Mitrovica over the detention of a minor, Kosovo police fined the father and grandfather of 16-year-old D.H. Suad Hot was fined 100 euros for "not reporting the protest," while his 71-year-old father received the same fine for insulting a public official.
As Suad Hot stated to Kosovo Online, he received the call shortly after the protest ended, and he immediately headed to the police station to find out why he was being called.
After handing over his personal documents upon arrival, he said Kosovo police officers asked him, "Why did you tell KFOR that you don’t have security? We are here to provide security for you."
"What security? You were beating my kid to death," he replied.
He pointed out to them not to shout at him and explained that, unlike his son, he knows his rights. He further explained to the police that everything concerning him and his son would be addressed in court with a lawyer.
Suad and his father, the boy's grandfather, were both fined 100 euros. Suad Hot's fine was for "not reporting the protest."
"My father was under stress and sedatives. I don’t know where he got the strength to walk, he has four bypasses. He made a mistake by cursing at the police. They asked him to come and give a statement, and he barely managed to make it," Hot recounted.
