The Italian Embassy in Pristina, regarding the arrest of Igor Popovic, Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, stated that it is closely monitoring the case and expects full respect for the rule of law.

“The Italian Embassy is closely monitoring the case and expects full respect for the rule of law and legal procedures,” the Embassy said in a response to Kosovo Online.

Popovic was detained on Friday at the Brnjak crossing over statements he made about the KLA during a commemoration marking the anniversary of the killing of Serbs in Orahovac.

He was ordered into 30-day detention and subsequently transferred to a detention unit in Gnjilane.
