KFOR: Integration of Kosovo Police into KFOR’s security architecture at Visoki Decani Monastery begins

The KFOR mission announced that today it began integrating Kosovo Police personnel into KFOR’s security architecture at the Visoki Decani Monastery.

According to the statement, in line with the improved security situation in Kosovo, this is part of the process of optimizing the deployment and engagement of KFOR forces.

“This process will be gradual and based on an assessment of conditions, and it is being carefully coordinated with a range of stakeholders, including representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church and institutions in Kosovo, as well as representatives of the Kosovo Police and the EULEX mission,” KFOR said.

The statement also said that KFOR’s commitment to the security of the Visoki Decani Monastery and the safety of all local communities remains firm and unchanged.

“Our personnel are appropriately deployed and ready to respond to all relevant developments, in accordance with KFOR’s longstanding mandate derived from the United Nations mandate. KFOR remains the first responder when it comes to the security of the Visoki Decani Monastery,” the statement said.

It added that KFOR would continue close cooperation with representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, institutions in Kosovo, international organizations and the Armed Forces of Serbia, with the aim of maintaining mutual transparency, cooperation and trust, as well as avoiding misunderstandings.

“It is important that all sides engage constructively in dialogue and cooperation,” KFOR said.

The statement also recalled that KFOR continues to fulfill its mandate based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributing to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo, as well as freedom of movement, at all times, impartially and in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and EULEX, within their respective roles in responding to security incidents.

Earlier today, RTK reported that the Kosovo Police had begun, after 27 years, to assume responsibility for security on the main bridge over the Ibar River. However, Kosovo Police Lieutenant Erduan Baliqi told Kosovo Online that there were no changes on the bridge.
