The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, made accusations against the media at today’s session of the Assembly of Kosovo, stating that “reports on financing from bags of money are a direct threat to the integrity of public debate.”

According to him, a misinformed citizen is not a free citizen, but a manipulated one. As he added, “manipulation comes from enemies, who find their way within Kosovo,” reports Kosova Press.

“Speech cannot be free if it is captured by hidden interests. Reports on financing are not only a matter of professional ethics, but are a direct threat to the integrity of public debate. When money enters invisibly, it not only buys media space, but also buys influence, directs the narrative and ultimately distorts the perception of the citizen. A misinformed citizen is not a free citizen, but a manipulated one and, as reports show, this manipulation comes directly from our enemies; unfortunately, they find their way within our country as well,” Kurti said.

As he added, they have no interest in restricting the media.

“On the contrary, we have an interest in them being stronger, but independence cannot be built on secrecy that finances slander and disinformation. Editorial freedom must be guaranteed, but it must be accompanied by full transparency of ownership and financing,” he said.
