The Community of Serb majority municipalities, demanded by Serbia, would undermine Kosovo's Constitution, stated Prime Minister Albin Kurti, adding that this also applies to guarantees for Orthodox churches and monasteries.

"The Community of Serb majority municipalities, demanded by Serbia without first recognizing Kosovo, and the demand to take over executive powers, whether from the government or municipalities, would violate our Constitution," Kurti said in video message posted on the social network "X."

According to him, the same applies to specific guarantees for Orthodox churches and monasteries.

He said that the Government of Kosovo is committed to listening to the demands of all minority communities and is awaiting political demands based on citizens' influence.

Kurti noted that Kosovo has strong minority protections, including guaranteed seats in parliament, veto rights for minority communities on key laws and constitutional amendments, and quotas for appointments and other public sector positions, including the police.

"The Serbian minority, which makes up about four percent of the population, governs over a quarter of municipalities and holds about 9 percent of seats in the Assembly, which are guaranteed to them. The Serbian language is official in Kosovo," Kurti stated.

Referring to a recent address at an event organized by the Harvard Albanian Student Association, Kurti said he had the opportunity to discuss Kosovo's strong economic growth, which has led to increased pensions and free higher education.

"I also spoke about Kosovo’s strong constitutional protections, which were praised in a report by eminent jurists of the Council of Europe, stating they exceed international standards," Kurti added.
