Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the adoption of amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism has fulfilled the final condition for joining SEPA.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the members of parliament who adopted the amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism in a second reading yesterday. By adopting this law, Kosovo has fulfilled the final condition for integration into the European payments system, SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area),” Kurti wrote on Facebook.

As he explained, Kosovo's integration into SEPA will enable bank transfers at significantly lower costs and save citizens, businesses and the diaspora approximately 58 million euros annually in transfer fees.

The Kosovo Assembly adopted the law in a second reading yesterday, with 61 votes in favor. The law regulates measures to prevent money laundering and combat the financing of terrorism.

The European Union also welcomed the adoption of the law, while Dirk Schuebel, Head of the EU Office in Pristina, said that it was good news and that Kosovo was one step closer to joining SEPA.
