Lina Veka: Europe has never been interested in proving Dick Marty's claims about organ trafficking

Maria Lina Veka, an Italian journalist and researcher who was among the first in the world to uncover the story of organ trafficking in Kosovo, told Kosovo Online that Europe has never had a genuine interest in prosecuting those responsible for these crimes, and that after Dick Marty's death, the last hope for it ever happening disappeared.

"Marty's immense investigative work, testimonies, evidence, and financial analyses that indisputably proved the involvement of KLA leaders in organ trafficking suddenly became useless. This became apparent with the initiation of the first indictments before the Specialist Chambers in Kosovo in The Hague. And now, after his death, I am convinced that the entire case will be forgotten," claims Lina Veka.

She says that from the beginning, no one in Europe had an interest in uncovering the truth about what happened in Kosovo in 1999 and after the arrival of international peace forces.

"If we look at Europe's recent past, we will see that no one is interested in presenting the real truth about the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Why would you then expect readiness to find out how the illegitimate state of Kosovo was created and Serbia demonized? Are we not still hearing the same lies today? That's why I am convinced that with Dick Marty's death, the last hope of finding out the real truth about the crimes committed against Serbs but also disloyal Albanians has effectively disappeared. I no longer expect anything from the so-called international justice," concludes Lina Veka.

Veka says that the news of Dick Marty's death deeply saddened her.

"I knew he had been ill in recent months. The news of his death was a feeling of defeat for me. He was an honest, meticulous, precise man, capable of immense work and leading large investigations, which he did as a public prosecutor from 1975 to 1989," says Lina Veka.

She reveals that she met him in the early 2000s when Marty presented reports on CIA prisons in Europe, but also that they spoke after he presented the report on organ trafficking in Kosovo.

"In November, his book 'Disrespect for the Truth' was published. He was capable of leading large investigations, and he proved that," concludes Lina Veka.
