Maliqi: The votes received by former KLA members are mostly already distributed

Political analyst Shkelzen Maliqi told Kosovo Online that the electorate in Kosovo is becoming younger, and that the votes received by former members of the KLA are mostly already distributed.

Certain political shifts among younger voters could bring surprises in the upcoming elections, Maliqi assessed, noting that he has not conducted any serious research on the political orientation of young people for almost six years, which is why he cannot speak with certainty about their views.

“I believe it is obvious that the electorate in Kosovo is becoming younger and changing, which could influence future election results. If not in these elections, then in the next ones, because there will no longer be illusions about who is blocking certain political processes and why,” the interviewee said.

He particularly singled out Ardian Gjini, a former KLA member and official of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, whom he says was long neglected within Ramush Haradinaj’s party.

“Gjini is now gaining popularity, and it is clear that citizens view him positively. Until now, he was mainly known as the mayor of Djakovica, but the support he has in that city could spill over to the national level,” Maliqi said.

According to his assessment, Gjini could win more votes on a broader level than Haradinaj himself would be able to secure.
