Mayors from the north with Prattipati: Conditions for the unhindered work of municipalities should be ensured

Four mayors from northern Kosovo met today with the Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the United States in Pristina, Anu Prattipati, informing her of the problems they are facing and stressing that it is necessary to ensure conditions for the unhindered functioning of municipalities.

During the meeting in North Mitrovica, the mayors pointed out numerous and serious problems faced by Serbian local self-governments in the north in their day-to-day operations, according to a statement by the Serb List.

They emphasized that it is urgently necessary to take concrete steps to ensure conditions for the normal and unhindered work of municipalities, respect for the rights of the Serbian people, and de-escalation of the situation on the ground.

Special attention was drawn to the problems posed by the announced implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the decision on vehicles, and assistance was requested from the representative of the US Embassy in resolving this issue, which, the mayors warned, could have serious consequences for the daily lives of citizens.

The mayors said that their priority is the preservation of peace and the improvement of the position of all citizens and that, as they stated, they will work dedicatedly toward that goal.

In a statement by the US Embassy, it is noted that Prattipati expressed expectations for transparent and efficient governance and the fair provision of services.

“Chargé d’Affaires Anu Prattipati met today with the four newly inaugurated mayors of North Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavic, and Kosovan Serb civil society representatives in northern Kosovo. She underscored US expectations for transparent, effective governance, equitable service delivery, and the importance of engaging with public safety institutions committed to serving all communities,” the statement reads.
