Mijacic: Expected move by the U.S., Kurti’s behavior encouraged instability

Dragisa Mijacic, Coordinator of the National Convention on the EU Working Group for Chapter 35, stated that the U.S. decision to suspend the planned strategic dialogue with Kosovo was expected, given the behavior of caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti, which has fueled instability and institutional chaos in Kosovo.

“A clear message from the U.S. to Kurti is no surprise—it was an expected move after repeated disappointments with his unilateral actions that have fueled instability and institutional chaos in Kosovo. The key word in the statement: ‘indefinitely’. Now we will see whether the Quint partners and the EU will follow this example,” Mijacic wrote.

The U.S. Embassy in Pristina announced today that the United States has indefinitely suspended the planned strategic dialogue with Kosovo due to concerns over the actions of the caretaker government, which have increased tensions and instability, limiting the ability of the U.S. to work productively with Kosovo on shared priorities.
