Milivojevic: The culmination of pressure on Serbia; there must be unity

Diplomat Zoran Milivojevic assessed today that the demands of the international “five” were the culmination of pressure on the state of Serbia, stressing that it was now necessary to show unity and a strategic approach to solving the Kosovo issue.

He believes that the concern of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, when addressing the nation, is justified, Pink reports.

"Since 1999, practically since the NATO bombing, they have been trying to change the position of Serbia and its existence by force. That is the essence of the whole story, whether it is an ultimatum or not, it doesn't matter, but this is the culmination of pressure and Serbia's confrontation with the key issue and that is its survival and state and national interest in the full sense of the word," Milivojevic said.

As he stated, Serbia was facing something that had nothing to do with its interests, but with Western geostrategic interests that were the result of competing and solving some global issues.

"It is true that we are entering a period, and that the question of all issues is the seriousness of the approach in this case to a truly open issue of the state," Milivojevic said.

He added that there had to be unity in Serbia.

"Unity is mentioned, I think that in such situations it should not even be a topic. The unity of peace should go without saying when the country is facing its own being, its own survival, and its own future,” Milivojevic concluded.

He added that Serbia was entering a phase when, in addition to unity, it was also an obligation to have a strategic approach, which primarily included the state of Serbia.

"Politika" journalist Aleksandar Apostolovski told Pink that nothing had changed throughout history and that there would always be those who would try to extract certain political benefits from historical events.

Apostolovski said that national unity had to be a matter that “goes without saying”.

"The invitation of the President of Serbia to the heads of parliamentary groups, where he would inform them about what the “Big Five” actually wanted and possibly explain to them details that are not for the general public, represents a logical path for a serious politician," Apostolovski assessed.

He added that it was very important that both the government and the opposition took a serious position, in order to demonstrate political and national harmony and to give Serbia's position more weight.
