Economics professor Shkumbin Misini believes that representatives of the European Union and Washington are disappointed with the leadership process in Kosovo and will no longer tolerate the status quo because, as he points out, they see it as a threat to regional security.

Commenting on the West’s attitude toward the new institutional crisis in Kosovo, Misini said that official Pristina risks the absence of new recognitions, but also the exodus of strategic investors.

“Kosovo risks not receiving new recognitions and having its integration processes into international organizations suspended. As for the economy, this could lead to an exodus of strategic investors and turn the country into an ‘unstable zone’ considered risky for foreign investment,” Misini said in a written statement to Kosovo Online.

As he added, if the political crisis jeopardizes reforms in Kosovo, funding from the European Union Growth Plan could also be called into question.

“Since implementation and changes require time, the Growth Plan 2024–2027 carries a risk regarding the use of financial resources in line with reforms. If institutional disputes jeopardize the strict reform conditions, the money will remain frozen in Brussels funds even if the agreement is quickly adopted,” Misini concluded.
