Vucic: Thaci will be acquitted of crimes against Serbs, convicted of contempt of court

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said this evening that he had received information that Hashim Thaci would be acquitted of charges relating to crimes committed against Serbs, Novosti reported.

Speaking on Informer TV, Vucic discussed the verdict in the trial of the former KLA leaders, which is scheduled to be delivered on September 16.

“I obtained that through intelligence channels... I deliberately said that so that various fools would think who knows what. I received information that they will give Hashim Thaci a sentence that covers the time he has spent in detention, so he will be convicted of contempt of court, while there will be nothing regarding the crimes against Serbs,” Vucic said.

He added that Serbia would then speak differently to the Europeans and everyone else.

“Because then it will be clear what they have been doing all this time. It will be better for us simply not to concern ourselves with this anymore, to understand that international justice and international law do not exist when it comes to all those four or five different tribunals and courts, of one kind or another. And then we can simply place our trust in our own legal system and no longer involve ourselves in those matters,” Vucic said.

Four former KLA leaders—Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi—are standing trial before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during and after the 1998–1999 Kosovo war.
