Muhaxhiri: Every German government will expect Pristina and Belgrade to complete what they started in dialogue
Every government in Germany, regardless of its leadership, will demand that Kosovo and Serbia cooperate, invest in the dialogue process, make progress more quickly, and complete everything that has been negotiated. Therefore, I do not expect any major changes in Germany's approach to the Balkans, political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri said for Kosovo Online.
He stated that the victory of the CDU and Friedrich Merz in yesterday's German elections was expected, as all indicators pointed to such an outcome. Meanwhile, Olaf Scholz, whose Social Democratic Party hit a historic low, had not been particularly respected, especially in recent years.
"Coalition talks will now begin, but the focus of the future German government will be on Ukraine and Gaza. The Balkans will remain important, but it will not be a top priority for the new German government," Muhaxhiri said.
Regarding Merz, he expects him to be a much stronger political leader than Scholz, given that Germany is the most influential country in the EU. Muhaxhiri believes Merz will try to impose his ideas to shape EU positions, despite the complex nature of the EU, which consists of numerous interests and internal negotiations.
"I think he will bring more energy and dynamism within the EU, particularly regarding Ukraine and Gaza. This is especially relevant now that Trump is back in power in Washington, and it will be very interesting to see how the EU under Merz responds to Trump's global policies," Muhaxhiri concluded.
