Muhaxhiri: Kurti can only make compromises over the position of president

Political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri said that caretaker Prime Minister and Self-Determination leader Albin Kurti can only make compromises regarding the position of president, as it is obvious that he has enough votes to constitute parliament and elect the government, but that it would be a mistake if those institutions were formed without a broader agreement on the issue of the new president.

"It does not make sense for Kurti to ask other parties to join him in the government when he can form it at any moment without an alliance, because he has more than 61 votes. It would amount to a form of political blackmail for anyone who agreed to join his government. The only position on which Kurti can make compromises is the presidency," Muhaxhiri told Kosovo Online.

According to him, it is clear that Kurti will not give up the position of prime minister, nor the post of speaker of parliament.

"It would not make sense for him to compromise over the government and parliament, but not over the presidency, because that is now the most important issue. At the moment, we do not see that Kurti is ready to make compromises regarding the position of Kosovo's president, and that is why the most realistic scenario is that we will once again have new elections," the analyst said.

Asked whether the issue of electing the deputy speaker of parliament from the Serbian community could become complicated, Muhaxhiri said he did not believe that would be the case this time or that Self-Determination would create problems over it.

"We have a Constitutional Court ruling, and it will be used as the basis for voting for the deputy speaker from the Serbian community. There may be some patriotic showmanship, but in the end, they will vote in favor of the deputy speaker from the Serbian community. They have no other option. This time, their goal is to form the institutions more quickly, not to create blockades as they did last time," Muhaxhiri concluded.
