Muhaxhiri: Sharing power with Self-Determination would not suit either Abdixhiku or the LDK

Political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri says that, as part of negotiations between Self-Determination and the LDK, Albin Kurti could make certain "adjustments" to the government if he were to secure a presidential candidate who meets his criteria and supports his political ideology. However, he stresses that such a scenario would amount to political suicide for the LDK because it would strengthen Kurti while weakening the LDK.

“In the long run, it would be a disaster because sharing power would suit neither Mr. Abdixhiku nor the LDK,” Muhaxhiri told Kosovo Online.

He added that Abdixhiku is facing major problems within his own party and that it is only logical for him to resolve internal issues first before attempting to reach an agreement with Kurti.

“I do not believe he will be able to count on all 18 members of parliament. This makes the situation even more complex, which is why there is only a pessimistic outlook if we base our assessment on realism. Everything comes down to the possibility of securing 80 votes in parliament. Without the PDK and the Alliance, I do not think that will be possible. No one will vote for a candidate who is not broadly acceptable to all political parties in Kosovo,” Muhaxhiri believes.

According to him, securing the 80 votes required to elect the president is almost an impossible mission.

“It is clear that a broader coalition is needed because of the symbolic importance of the presidency, as well as the practical requirement of obtaining 80 votes. Therefore, it will be extremely difficult. I do not believe there are good chances of achieving this because the differences are very significant and there is no genuine willingness on all sides to reach an appropriate solution,” Muhaxhiri said.
