NATO: Respect the agreements regarding the presence of the KSF in the north
The spokeswoman of the North Atlantic Alliance, Oana Lungescu, said today that NATO assessed the events in the north of Kosovo as "very serious" and was taking all necessary measures to ensure a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for members of all communities, in accordance with the powers of the Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council.
In a post on Twitter, Lungescu stated that the commitment of NATO and KFOR to implement the obligations from their mandate was unwavering, which could be seen, as she pointed out, by the recent deployment of an additional 500 soldiers.
"We once again remind all parties of their obligations to KFOR as defined by the Military Technical Agreement including respect for the Administrative Boundary Line, procedures for the Kosovo Police, and the 2013 Agreement on the Deployment of Kosovo Security Forces in the North. These obligations are designed to ensure coordinated action, avoid escalation and maintain a safe and secure environment," Lungescu said.
Let us remind you that according to the Brussels Agreement from 2013, the KSF cannot be in the northern part of Kosovo without the prior approval of the KFOR commander. This was also defined by the exchange of letters between the former NATO Secretary General Andres Fogh Rasmussen and the former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, where it was guaranteed that for the arrival of the KSF in the north, in addition to the KFOR commander, the mayors of four municipalities with a Serbian majority must also agree.
