Novakovic: International conference unfeasible, time for the Quint to expedite the achievement of a solution
Igor Novakovic from the Center for International and Security Affairs believes that an international peace conference on the Kosovo issue is currently unfeasible, and he suggests that it's necessary to give new impetus to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina under the auspices of the EU.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama proposed holding an international peace conference to resolve the situation in Kosovo.
"The situation is escalating to some extent, but I don't think we've reached a point that would lead to such a drastic move as organizing an international conference. However, within the ongoing dialogue, there is room for a new initiative, primarily coming from the Quint member states, which might expedite the resolution of outstanding issues," Novakovic says for Kosovo Online.
In his opinion, the EU should continue to facilitate the dialogue, but with certain modifications in the process.
"The dialogue has certainly been transferred from the UN to the European Union, and the EU can continue to be the official sponsor of this project, but a new initiative should be incorporated into that framework," Novakovic believes.
