Jaksic: Rama's initiative for an international conference premature
Journalist Bosko Jaksic assessed for Kosovo Online that Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama's initiative for an international conference due to the situation in Kosovo had come prematurely.
"Albanian Prime Minister's initiative is undoubtedly noble but premature. International conferences usually take place when problems are aligned, and such gatherings are used for ceremonial resolutions," Jaksic says.
He adds that the Kosovo issue is far from being resolved.
"It's far from any international conference. A long way needs to be traveled before that, and it's a significant challenge, primarily for the European Union and the United States, who have created the Brussels and Ohrid plans, but we see that they are not functioning at all," he notes.
He explains that it will take much more time and pressure to reach a resolution.
"Probably a lot more pressure will be needed on both Belgrade and Pristina to get this moving from a standstill, and I'm afraid that the 'status quo' suits many," Jaksic concludes.
After the conflict in Banjska, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the dialogue format should be elevated to the "conference level," with the EU and the Euro-Atlantic community represented at the highest level, and France and Germany at the level of presidents and chancellors.
"The current format where two men meet has nothing more to offer," Rama believes.
