Office for Kosovo and Metohija: Pristina continues persecution of the Serbian people

The Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated that today’s arrest of A.D. from the village of Grncare in the Kosovo Pomoravlje region, a retired police officer, 26 years after the conflict, demonstrates that Pristina continues its persecution of the Serbian population in Kosovo.

“In an effort to provoke and intimidate the Serbian people in these areas, the authorities in Pristina continue the practice of arbitrarily arresting Serbs, as a rule without any relevant evidence or credible witnesses, which clearly indicates the political background of such actions,” the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated.

They also emphasized that Pristina’s attempts to present such arrests as part of the so-called “rule of law” are futile, as court proceedings clearly show that these are unfounded persecutions, not based on law, justice, or facts.

“Politically motivated arrests serve as a mechanism of Albin Kurti for retaliation against Serbs, with the aim of sending a message that there is neither peace nor security for them in Kosovo and Metohija. As always, we will clearly point this out to representatives of the international community and request that they closely monitor the case of A.D., as well as all other proceedings conducted against arrested Serbs,” the statement added.

Earlier today, police investigators from the War Crimes Investigation Directorate, acting on the orders of the Special Prosecution of Kosovo, arrested A.D. on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “war crimes against the civilian population.”

A.D. is suspected of having committed war crimes in the village of Ivaja and surrounding villages in the municipality of Kacanik.
