Osmani called EU Spokesperson's statements racist: I oppose the discussion about the bridge in Brussels
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, characterized the statements of EU Spokesperson Peter Stano as racist, stating that she did not wish to comment on them.
Osmani emphasized that Serbia has no say in the opening of the main bridge on the Ibar River, adding that "when Stano crosses bridges in his own country, he doesn't ask neighboring countries for permission."
"As for the European Union, the statements made by this institution's spokesperson are primarily racist, so I don't believe they deserve any further attention from me. There is no reason for their racist statements, and I am opposed to any discussion about the opening of the Ibar Bridge in Brussels. Dialogue with Serbia on this topic should not be accepted by anyone, it would be against the constitution and the sovereignty of Kosovo. However, dialogue with our allies is not only necessary but also in our best interest," Osmani stated.
EU Spokesperson Peter Stano recently stated that the closure of Serbian Post branches violates the dialogue agreement and that the opening of the bridge on the Ibar is an explosive issue. He added that it is not good that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is in a "constant crisis mode" and a "crisis resolution mode," which is increasingly accompanied by unilateral actions and uncontrolled measures, mostly coming from the administration in Pristina.
"Last week, the European Union, the entire Quint, all friends of Kosovo, the United States, key European countries, and the European Union went to Prime Minister Kurti and told him, 'Don't do it, don't take unilateral actions, don't open the bridge.' But it seems he is determined to do so. That is why we said, 'No, this will have very negative effects.' We urge the authorities to prevent and avoid steps that will lead to greater confrontations and escalation. Because it harms people on the ground and also harms you, as Kosovo is under EU measures and some US measures due to repeated, proven actions that lead to escalation. It helps no one; on the contrary, it has very negative effects on many people," Stano said.
