Petkovic to Krois: Pristina's escalatory actions are aimed at driving the Serbian people out

Petar Petkovic, Director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija, met today with Dominika Krois, the United Nations Secretary-General's Representative and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade, to brief her on what the Office described as Pristina's unilateral and unlawful actions, as well as violations of fundamental human rights in Kosovo.

Petkovic particularly stressed that the demolition of Serbian-owned weekend houses on Lake Gazivode, carried out without any court order, demonstrated that Pristina was deliberately disregarding even its own regulations in order to oppress and intimidate Serbs, particularly in northern Kosovo.

"While systematically depriving Serbs of their rights on a daily basis, Pristina is simultaneously pursuing escalatory measures aimed at driving the Serbian people out and creating impossible living conditions for them," Petkovic said.

He also informed his interlocutor about what he described as arbitrary and politically motivated arrests of Serbs, which, according to him, Pristina uses as a mechanism of intimidation and forced displacement of the Serbian population, adding that the detention of 36 Serbs at Gazimestan was a clear example of such a policy.

"At the same time, Pristina continues its persistent efforts to dismantle all the achievements of the Brussels Dialogue and has, for the past 13 years, refused to establish the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities, which is the guarantee of the protection of the collective and individual rights of the Serbs," Petkovic added.

He concluded by reiterating that Belgrade would continue to advocate for peace, stability, and the normalization of relations on the ground, as well as for the consistent implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.
