Petkovic: For the so-called Kosovo, the United Nations will forever remain an abstract notion

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, said this evening, commenting on Kosovo Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci’s assessment that UN Security Council Resolution 1244 no longer has the same relevance, that the United Nations will remain an abstract notion for the so-called Kosovo.

In a post on the social network X, Petkovic also wrote that “Maqedonci is as relevant to speak about UN Security Council Resolution 1244 as Kurti is about democracy and human rights.”

“Whatever he says cannot change the fact that for the so-called Kosovo, the United Nations will forever remain an abstract notion. Wandering through the corridors is as far as they will get,” Petkovic stated.

Maqedonci had previously said that UN Security Council Resolution 1244 no longer has the same relevance after a long period of time, particularly “after independence and major changes in all aspects in the Republic of Kosovo.”

However, Maqedonci also noted that any amendment to that document can only be made by consensus of all members of the UN Security Council.

“But its amendment can only be carried out with the consensus of all Security Council members, among whom there are countries that, in addition to not recognizing the Republic of Kosovo, are also opposed to its independence and support Serbia. Nevertheless, during this time we have tried to find areas where we can cooperate, within the limitations that KFOR has in relation to Kosovo and our institutions. Among other things, we conduct joint exercises with KFOR,” Maqedonci told RTK.
