Petkovic with Sorensen: Belgrade ready to continue dialogue and talks on the draft Statute of the CSM
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, met today with the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue, Peter Sorensen, with whom he discussed the course of the dialogue, as well as the implementation of the European Union’s solution regarding the Law on Foreigners, and the search for solutions concerning the Law on Motor Vehicles.
Petkovic conveyed to his interlocutor that the mentioned EU solution is important for the life of the Serbian people and the unhindered functioning of Serbian educational and healthcare institutions in Kosovo, but that, on the other hand, problems still remain regarding the issuance of documents.
For this reason, Petkovic stressed, it is important that EU representatives actively monitor this process in order to avoid all obstacles, and that the European Union engage even more strongly when it comes to finding a solution to the issue of motor vehicles.
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija emphasized that Belgrade is ready at any moment to continue dialogue with Pristina at the technical level and to hold talks on the draft Statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities, especially considering that April 19 marks 13 years since the signing of the First Brussels Agreement on the normalization of relations, which envisaged the establishment of the CSM. Therefore, Petkovic stressed, the Serbian people rightfully expect that this obligation undertaken by Pristina will be fulfilled, as its implementation is also guaranteed by the European Union.
“For Belgrade, it is most important that peace and security of our people in Kosovo and Metohija are preserved, along with respect for their basic human rights, while unilateral and escalatory moves by Pristina do not contribute to the normalization of relations on the ground,” Petkovic emphasized.
During the constructive discussion, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated, Belgrade conveyed that it is important to continue implementing the Declaration on Missing Persons, as well as to devote attention to the position of internally displaced persons, according to the statement by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
