Vucic with Sorensen: Unilateral measures by Pristina create serious pressure on the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met in Belgrade with the European Union Special Envoy for the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue, Peter Sorensen, with whom he discussed, among other things, the security of the Serbian people in Kosovo.

Vucic stated that he had a substantive discussion with Sorensen on key issues burdening relations in the region.

“We exchanged views on the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija, with a particular focus on the security of the Serbian people, as well as the great uncertainty in which they live, bearing in mind the selective application of various regulations and obvious discrimination in almost all spheres of life. I emphasized that unilateral measures by Pristina, as well as the implementation of regulations without taking into account the real circumstances on the ground and without agreement in Brussels, create serious pressure on the Serbian people and vital Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.

He also stressed that Serbia remains firmly committed to dialogue as the only sustainable path toward resolving open issues, but also expects concrete engagement from actors in Pristina in implementing already reached agreements.

“I particularly emphasized the importance of establishing the Community of Serb Municipalities, as a key element for protecting the rights and security of our people, which is an obligation that must be fulfilled without further delay. I pointed out that unilateral moves by Pristina continue to further raise tensions and endanger the fragile stability on the ground, thereby directly undermining the dialogue process. I reiterated that strong and consistent engagement by the EU is of key importance in order to prevent such activities and to ensure that no move is aimed at obstructing dialogue, but rather at creating conditions for its smooth and constructive continuation,” the Serbian president emphasized.

He thanked Peter Sorensen for his commitment to dialogue and reiterated that Serbia will continue to act responsibly and constructively, safeguarding its national interests while also contributing to the stability of the entire region.

“I expressed confidence that open and continuous communication with international partners is essential for finding lasting and sustainable solutions in the interest of peace, security, and the future of all citizens,” Vucic concluded.
