Phillips: If Trump is elected president, there is a risk of "Bondsteel" closing

David Phillips, a professor at Columbia University, stated that a victory for Donald Trump in the US elections could have a significant impact on Kosovo, as there is a risk of the gradual closure of the "Bondsteel" military base, Reporteri reports.
Phillips shared his thoughts with RFE on the approaches of the two presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
“One of the first things Trump could do is reassess US policy and security interests. I would expect that the US military base in Kosovo, ‘Bondsteel,’ might gradually close. Additionally, any steps toward integrating Kosovo into NATO would be suspended,” Phillips emphasized.
According to Phillips, Trump has financial interests in the Balkans.
“If Trump is elected, we will likely see a major shift in US policy. Trump has financial interests in the Balkans,” he said.
On the other hand, Phillips believes that the focus of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is on the rule of law and human rights, not only in Kosovo but globally.
“She is an advocate for the rule of law and human rights, so we will likely notice this emphasis not just in Kosovo, but around the world,” he added.
