Pljevlja Municipal Assembly adopts declaration annulling the decision on the recognition of Kosovo

The Municipal Assembly of Pljevlja today adopted a Declaration Annulling the Decision on the Recognition of Kosovo's Independence within the territory of the municipality, Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG) reported.

The Declaration was supported by 18 councilors. Immediately before the vote, two councilors from the Europe Now Movement (PES) and one independent councilor left the assembly chamber, although they had actively participated in the debate beforehand.

The session was initiated by councilors of the "For the Future of Pljevlja" coalition, comprising the Democratic People's Party (DNP) and the New Serb Democracy (NSD). Their initiative was supported by 19 members of the local assembly.

The proponents stated that, by adopting the Declaration, the local assembly would express its position that it does not accept the 2008 decision of the Government of Montenegro recognizing Kosovo's independence.

A similar Declaration annulling the decision to recognize Kosovo was also adopted by the Municipal Assembly of Zeta on May 12 this year.

Knezevic: Pljevlja Has Joined Zeta in Correcting the Greatest Historical Injustice

The President of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), Milan Knezevic, today congratulated the councilors who voted in favor of the Declaration, stating that, through this decision, they had enabled Pljevlja—"a town of proud tradition, rich history, and good and noble people"—to join the Municipality of Zeta in correcting what he described as "the greatest historical injustice"—the recognition of the "so-called State of Kosovo."

"By this act, we have demonstrated that entering history does not begin with grand speeches and rhetoric, but with concrete actions, consistency, and a steadfast commitment to the ideological principles from which we have not retreated by even a single iota," Knezevic said in a video message published on Facebook.

Knezevic, who is currently visiting Washington, expressed particular gratitude to the DNP councilors' group, which initiated the decision, as well as to the head of the councilors' group and Member of Parliament Vladislav Bojovic, who, according to Knezevic, consistently insisted that the proposal be placed on the agenda and brought to a vote.

He also announced that the name of another municipality where a similar declaration could be adopted would soon be made public.

"Very soon we will announce the name of another municipality that, I hope, will follow the example of Zeta and Pljevlja. Nothing is impossible if you firmly and wholeheartedly believe in it. Today, here in Washington, we are launching a diplomatic campaign and offensive under the slogan 'Make Montenegro Great Again,' because who else would do it if not the Democratic People's Party," Knezevic said.
