At the plea hearing, the prosecution proposed a two-year entry ban to Kosovo for Igor Popovic and a fine of €3,000
The Kosovo Special Prosecutor’s Office proposed at the plea hearing that Igor Popovic, Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija of the Government of Serbia, accused of the alleged criminal offense of “inciting discord and intolerance,” be sentenced to a two-year ban on entering Kosovo, as well as a fine of 3,000 euros.
Popovic voluntarily admitted guilt for the charges brought against him.
The prosecutor stated that the agreement was reached in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code. The prosecution initially requested a six-month prison sentence, which was converted into a 3,000 euros fine, deportation, and a ban on entering Kosovo for the next two years.
Attorney Milos Delevic said they are standing by the plea agreement with the prosecution.
According to the prosecution, on July 18, around noon in Orahovac, Popovic deliberately encouraged and publicly spread hatred and intolerance between ethnic groups.
Popovic was arrested at the Brnjak crossing on July 18, after commemorating the anniversary of the suffering of Serbs in Orahovac, and was then placed in 30-day detention.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m.
