Baraliu: Failure to reach an agreement is unacceptable, Kosovo has many candidates for president
University professor Mazllum Baraliu said that it is unacceptable that there is no agreement between political parties that would enable the formation of institutions, given that Kosovo has many candidates for president.
He assessed that, instead of seeking additional deadlines that are not provided for by the Constitution, the issue of a candidate for the new president should be resolved within a few hours.
„The criteria are clearly set out in the Constitution regarding what a candidate for president, whether male or female, must fulfill. All of this is unnecessary stalling, which could even lead to the issue of interpretation being referred to the Constitutional Court. There is no need for further delays. They could have selected a candidate tonight“, he said on Klan Kosova TV.
Baraliu said that Kosovo is in a political deadlock, warning that it risks „entering a state of free fall“.
„Kosovo has countless such names, among both men and women in this country, and it is not difficult at all for those in power to find one, provided they do not insist on having people there who fail to perform their duties. If the issue is that someone has other goals, such as achieving an electoral objective or engaging in a political confrontation with political opponents, that is another matter and it should not be happening“, he added.
He said that political parties had failed to understand the message sent by voters in the last election, noting that a large number of citizens did not turn out to vote.
„This political struggle is harmful and has irreparable consequences. This political class is proving to be irresponsible, but whoever received the most votes bears the primary responsibility, followed by the others, in proportion to the responsibility they assumed through the votes of citizens“, Baraliu said.
