Regarding the idea of the Mayor of South Mitrovica, Faton Peci, to turn the family house of Kosovo intellectual and activist Latif Berisha in North Mitrovica into a museum, the Mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, points out that Peci continues to interfere in the competences of a municipality he does not lead, and appealed to the international community to prevent it.

“The interference of the Municipality of South Mitrovica in matters that fall under the jurisdiction of North Mitrovica continues. It is interesting that precisely on the day marking the beginning of the Nato aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, when we were laying flowers for our fallen compatriots and fellow citizens, Albin Kurti and Peci visited the northern part of Mitrovica. Without notifying the local self-government, the mayor, but with an exceptionally large escort of the Kosovo police. They visited the Brdjani neighborhood, which is located exclusively within the territory of North Mitrovica, and for one house said that they plan to build a museum,” Radojevic explained for Kosovo Online.

He reiterated that such an announcement represents interference in the competences of the Municipality of North Mitrovica, which is why he called on the international community to react and prevent this violation of jurisdiction.

“We constantly warn representatives of the international community that both Kurti and the mayor of South Mitrovica deny the existence of the separate Municipality of North Mitrovica and are making every effort to ensure that the Municipality of North Mitrovica, as an independent municipality, ceases to exist,” Radojevic noted.

In support of this, he points out that the extract from the Cadastre clearly confirms that the house they are referring to is located in the territory of North Mitrovica.

“I appeal to representatives of the international community to react, to influence Pristina, Kurti, and the mayor of South Mitrovica, to stop interfering in the competences of the Municipality of North Mitrovica and to stop fueling hatred and intolerance among peoples,” Radojevic said.

Peci yesterday announced an initiative to turn the family house of Latif Berisha into a museum which, as he stated, “will serve as a reference point of recent Kosovo history,” expressing gratitude to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti for supporting the initiative.
